Senator Sonny Angara welcomed the signing into law of Republic Act 11358 or the National Vision Screening Act as a vital tool for parents to catch eye problems of their children at an early age and address these while they still can.

Angara, who is the principal author of the law in the Senate, said the law will “provide parents some degree of comfort in knowing that whatever problems there are with the eyesight of their young children will be detected right away” through vision screening tests done while they are still in kindergarten.

The reduction of prison sentences is not a mathematical formula that can be computed separate and isolated from other factors that must be considered.

It is not an estimation solely driven by the mechanical subtraction of years from the sentence. There are qualitative considerations like good behaviour or if the inmate, by his actions, had exhibited true remorse and rehabilitation.

Angara—It’s about time that we focus on rehabilitating the drug users

In the first half of President Duterte’s term, tokhang was the byword in the government’s war on illegal drugs.

Now that the President is on legacy mode, the anti-illegal drugs campaign should start shifting to reform and rehabilitation.

“Naramdaman na ng mga tulak at gumagamit ng ilegal na droga ang kamay na bakal ng administration. Makaraan ng tatlong taon, sa tingin ko ay kahit paano hindi na kasing tindi ng nakaraan ang pagtutulak ng droga sa bansa,” Angara said.

Senator Sonny Angara on the death of Gina Lopez

By her selfless works, Gina’s work was the confirmed environment secretary of the people,  the minister for sustainable development, and the ambassador for children’s rights.

She spent a lifetime pouring her considerable talents in bringing to the mainstream the powerless and the voiceless who exist forgotten in the  margins of society.

She fought for children who were incapable of seeking justice and care  for themselves and eloquently spoke for the people in the communities  whose voices have been crushed by exploitation.

Statement of Sen. Sonny Angara on the inquiry into the anomalies in PhilHealth

Posted on: Wed, 08/14/2019 - 15:10 By: admin

Clearly, the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) has a multitude of problems that has led to this situation where we have individuals and health care providers defrauding the government of hundreds of millions in funds that should be going to Filipinos struggling to cope with their medical needs.

This is not new as what we saw during the hearing. It appears there are unscrupulous individuals within the PhilHealth who have access to the database of members and are manipulating the processing of claims for their own benefit.

Angara sees a deeper pool of national athletes with the creation of a Philippine High School for Sports

For a country that is crazy about sports in general, it has a shortage of elite athletes who can compete with the best in the world.

In order to produce world-class athletes, Senator Sonny Angara said training should start at an early age and should be focused and well-funded.

“Hindi tayo magkakaroon ng mga gold medalists sa Olympics at wala din tayo pag asa na magkaroon ng Pinoy sa mga premyadong liga tulad ng NBA at MLB kung hindi natin seseryosohin ang pag train sa ating mga atleta,” Angara said.

Angara lauds Marikina shoe-tech school as a good Tatak Pinoy model to improve competitiveness

Posted on: Sun, 08/11/2019 - 01:22 By: admin

The “shoe-tech” school being put up by the local government of Marikina City for those who want to go into the shoemaking business is a Tatak Pinoy model that other parts of the country can follow, Senator Sonny Angara said.

“We need more of these Tatak Pinoy initiatives to highlight the best of what a LGU has to offer. In the case of Marikina City, its expertise in making quality footwear is known by all. This is something that should be sustained and promoted further to ensure its continued growth, both domestically and internationally,” Angara said.
