CAVITE’S POWERFUL CLANS SUPPORT ANGARA FOR REELECTION

Senator Sonny Angara has secured the backing of two powerful political clans in the vote-rich Cavite province to seek another six-year term in the Senate.

The lawmaker, who is running under the platform “Alagang Angara,” is one of the preferred senatorial candidates in the May 13 midterm election based on various pre-election surveys, landing in the top 2 to top 5 spot.

Angara was in Cavite on Wednesday on the invitation of the influential Remulla and Revilla families to attend various activities and events organized by the provincial government.

The reelectionist senator received a warm welcome from Jonvic Remulla, former Cavite governor who is again seeking the top provincial post, and Vice Governor Jolo Revilla as guest of honor in two events—Lingap sa Kalikasan and Barangay Assembly—held in Dasmariñas City and Silang town, respectively.

Earlier in the day, Angara was accompanied by Revilla to a visit in Bacoor City Public Market and a courtesy call to Dasmariñas City Mayor Elpidio “Pidi” Barzaga Jr.

Data from the Commission on Elections showed that there are over 2 million registered voters in Cavite, making it the second vote-rich province in the country, next only to Cebu, which hit the 3-million registered voter mark for this year’s election.

Six senators, including the top three leaders of the Senate, have endorsed Angara’s candidacy. They are Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III, Senate President Pro Tempore Ralph Recto, Majority Leader Juan Miguel “Migz” Zubiri, and Senators Loren Legarda, Joel Villanueva and Sherwin Gatchalian.

Angara is also being endorsed by Hugpong ng Pagbabago (HnP), the influential regional political party led by presidential daughter and Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte, and PDP-Laban, the political party of President Rodrigo Duterte.

His candidacy is also supported by several organizations, political parties and cause-oriented groups, such as One Batangas; Confederation of Sugar Producers Associations Inc.; Filipinos for Peace, Justice and Progress Movement or FPJPM; Coalition of Services of the Elderly Inc.; Coop-NATCCO Party-list; and Davao-based District III Women Federation Inc.
